Diana will present a paper to the world disability leaders forum. Her talk will be on the subject of disability arts in Aotearoa New Zealand and she hopes to open doors for our country’s, and our studio’s, disabled artists on the world stage.
ArtPara – Shine Together will feature an exhibition of work from disabled artists from all over the world.
Twenty seven countries will participate in the exhibition and this will be the first time NZ will be represented. Māpura is the only disability organisation that was approached and works by two of our artists will be included. Ululau Ama will show three paintings and Matthew Allerby two.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our artists, our studio, and the future of disability art everywhere.
Diana, we wish you bon voyage!

Purpose of exhibition
It is an honor to showcase the artistic prowess of painters with developmental disabilities at the OECD Headquarters Gallery in Paris through the event ‘2024 Venz Illuminer Art Para,’ commemorating the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
In the context of the Paralympics, the term ‘Para’ now conveys a sense of being beside and alongside, rather than indicating paraplegics.
This exhibition highlights special artworks crafted by talented artists with developmental disabilities from around the world, all with the aim of promoting a world where individuals, with or without disabilities, can coexist peacefully and freely.
Despite facing a world rife with prejudices, these artists have conveyed the vision of an unbiased world through their artworks, emphasizing messages of reconciliation and coexistence.
The journey of this exhibition began with a showcase at the New York UN headquarters in 2015, commemorating the International Day of People with Disability.
It has since traveled to various locations, including the Berlin Wall, China, and the Brazilian Paralympics in 2016, the Geneva UN branch2017, the Pyeongchang Paralympic Games in 2018, the Paris UNESCO headquarters in 2018, the Hangaram Art Museum at the Seoul Arts Center in 2019, the National Asian Cultural Center in 2020, and the Gwangju Biennale in 2022.
This exhibition aligns with the values and ideals of the Olympics, symbolizing the solidarity and integration of the five continents.
It unfolds as a beautiful journey, aimed at fostering a healthy community through the transformative power of art, with the promise of continuing in the future.
At the “2024 Venez Illuminer” event, artists with developmental disabilities from all over the world, along with world-renowned artist Kim Geun-tae, have the honor of showcasing their works in the Art Para exhibition. This exhibition tells the never-before-told story of “Little Soul Artists” coming together.
