Located down The Regent Arcade, Peep is a window gallery showcasing contemporary art from a range of artists for four weeks at a time. We hope to make contemporary art accessible, share thoughts, and invite conversation in Te Papaioea.
Matthew Tucker first started doing art at school He is now an artist at Mapura Studios. He has been attending to the studio for 18 years. His work explores ideas cosmology, mathematics, science, colour, rhythm and repetition.
This recent work by Matthew:
“ I wanted to go outside my comfort zone and challenge myself to complete a larger project. I wanted to challenge my mind. It was a meditative random process to fill a space with colour”
When I first started doing painting I started using many different layers using different mediums.
The reason why I choose to use mathematics and science in my art is because I have a mathematical analytical mind. This is part of my personality. I don’t like anything out of line because of my sight.”
