“I like bright colours because they stand out a lot more on the black background and bright colours are happy.
When I draw, I like to draw my Characters as Anime Characters.
It has always been my dream to one day go to Japan and visit Anime museums and meet Anime artist so I can improve my drawing.
Monster Caravan. My monster is good not bad and he looks like a monster to people because he is different but he is good. Everyone even Monsters need a Holiday.”
Shyroe attends Becoming an Artist class on Tuesday morning, which is a dynamic programme aimed at youth and adults who want to extend their creative capabilities in imaginative and innovative ways within a range of diverse art making processes.
This programme delivers a particularly vital, stimulating, community-centred and social environment. It is particularly suited and orientated to youth.

Shyroe has been an artist at Māpura Studios for about 7 years. Shyroe first came with a group of students from Arohanui School.
“Painting is my favourite medium, but I also love drawing and printmaking, screen printing and mono.
I look on the internet for ideas and draw from imagination. I use symbols and tell stories. My brother inspired me to draw when I was little.
I make art at home in my spare time. Art is important to me. I make art for fun, it makes me feel good.”
