in a reciprocal learning relationship teachers are not expected to know everything.
In particular, ako suggests that each member of the classroom or learning setting brings knowledge with them from which all are able to learn.

Ian Moore
Ian Moore was born in Burnham-on-Crouch, England in 1950. He moved to New Zealand in 1964, and lived in Auckland from the 1970s. He died in Auckland on 25 October, 2018.
Ian Moore was trained as a traditional signwriter, a craft and profession in which he worked throughout his adult life. From the 1980s onward he dedicated more and more time to painting as art practice, learning techniques and gaining insight into the works of modern art history through study and travel to Europe and the United States. He was particularly inspired by non-objective painting and geometric abstraction, being influenced by his experiences with works by leading voices of 20th century Modern painting, including Agnes Martin, Kazimir Malevich, and Frank Stella. He completed MFA at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia, in 2004 from which time his own practice began to develop an increasingly austere and hard-edged character in hand with his technical proficiency and love for paint.
The paintings in this exhibition are selected from works made over the course of the last decade, dating from 2007 to 2018. In this time, Moore focussed his attention in his work on the use of line and colour, exploring rectilinear and geometric compositional variation on flat picture planes with controlled palettes. He was interested in the subtle illusions of abstract painting, particularly the phenomena of pattern, colour, and reflected light. He described line and colour as qualities of painting to be ‘the most human of communication’.
In 2004 Ian Moore joined the tutoring faculty of Māpura, an organisation providing arts programmes and activities for people living with disability and diversity. He continued with Māpura as a tutor in visual arts, where the experience of learning from and with students in their personal growth and expression through art making was inspirational.
On Tuesday 13th November 2018 Pah Homestead and Māpura Studios had a celebration of the achievements of renowned Artist and Māpura tutor Ian Moore. There were beautiful words and many tears.
A Big Thank you to all who came to show their appreciation.
