Movement & Art
Movement & Art is an innovative programme combining music, movement, and visual art for people with disabilities.
You will learn how to relax and feel comfortable in an enjoyable and safe environment.
The tutor plays a variety of music to inspire movement, rhythm, and dance. You’re encouraged to immerse yourself in the music and respond spontaneously. If you are unable to physically make a particular movement, you can create it in your imagination. This may extend your body’s capabilities beyond what you thought was possible.
People in wheelchairs are assisted by arts facilitators and care-workers. Working in tandem with the ‘dancer’, they can fully immerse themselves in the exploration of movement. Aids such as pieces of fabric are used as sensory stimulus, to explore interaction and connection between participants.
Movement and rhythm release great joy. They promote a sense of liberation, generating a feeling of newness and freedom of expression.
The dance and movement experiences are then translated into visual imagery. You’ll create expressive artworks using paint, pastels, or 3-D modelling.
