Māngere Māpura Studios
Māngere Māpura Studios is now in its second year. The art space is open to people of all ages, outlooks, and levels of ability.
No knowledge of art is needed and friends and whanau are welcome. The programme is free, and all materials are supplied.
Tutors Margaret Feeney, Sonny Tuiletufuga and Kalisolaite ‘Uhila are running the project in the Māngere Library.
We have worked with hundreds of people and artists from the community over this time and have worked closely with grass roots social justice organisation I AM Māngere.
We are currently collaborating with local ecology group Te Ara-rata Stream Team to paint a mural for the upcoming Māngere Community Enviro Hub by the stream. The mural will be on five primed plywood panels that will be bolted onto the container once finished.

We have organised events around the mural which has enriched the project and strengthened connections around the community.
The project is inspired by the complexity and rigour of te Mātauranga Māori and that everything is connected and we all – the water, the animals, the landforms – whakapapa to Te Ao Mārama.
