Kevin Webb
Allyson Hamblett profiles fellow artist Kevin Webb
Kevin has been coming to Māpura for about 2 to 3 years. He attends our Creative Living class in Orewa, which is a dynamic learning environment. Students are encouraged to explore and experiment, and to develop new ways of thinking and perceiving through the process of making art. The tutors support you as you develop your own concepts and ideas.
Kevin enjoys creating landscapes and shapes. “Everybody can use different materials like paints to pencil, chalk and other things they find easy to do”, says Kevin. Kevin likes how people can create big and little paintings. Kevin loves meeting people and creating art works with different materials.
Kevin has been creative since 5, “drawing in my mind, but never thought I would become a good artist”, says Kevin. He loves mixing paint with chalk and charcoal. Loves showing artwork to other people in the class. Kevin is a great artist now.
Tutors and classmates encourage Kevin to develop his art practice. At home Kevin does crafts including Christmas cards and other types of cards at Life works.

When he’s not at Māpura, Kevin does a voluntary job at the Warkworth library, where he enjoys meeting people. Kevin also goes swimming and loves 10 pin bowling in Orewa.
Both Tessa Hefferon and Kevin were part of a Life Homes group exhibition at Whangaparoa Library this term which was very special for both of them. Kevin was so excited to see his artwork being exhibited and can’t wait for the next opportunity.
Since coming to Māpura, Kevin is amazed at how many kinds of artworks can be created with different materials and shapes and figures. The way chalk smudges with the paint. Would love to create larger works.
He would really miss Māpura and encourages more people to attend and see how creative they can be.
